Intro

There is only one direction for this stage: uphill. The trail first zigzags from Grimentz to Bendolla, then it runs parallel to the chairlift for a short while as far as Les Crêts. It continues past Lac de Lona over the pass of the same name and then up to the highest hut on this route.

Description

Grimentz is located in the Val d'Anniviers at an altitude of 1,570 metres and can be described as a cultural gem. Alleyways adorned with geraniums invite you to take a trip through history. The car-free village centre has a special charm, with its sun-scorched, historic wooden houses and the “Burgerhaus”.

The 24th stage of the Alpine Passes Trail can be summarised in brief: it is uphill. You can reach Bendolla in about an hour and a half from Grimentz via a zigzag trail. First you hike across the pasture, and once at the chapel, you veer off into the forest. After you have managed the first altitude difference of almost 600 metres, an impressive view opens up of the surrounding mountains of the Val d'Anniviers. You can also cut short this ascent by taking the cable car from Grimentz to Bendolla.

Further uphill you pass the last chairlift and slowly leave civilisation behind. An attractive path takes you below the Pointe de Lona peak to a small plateau, then on to Lona. The peaks of the Barrhorn, Weisshorn and Zinalrothorn provide a majestic Alpine panorama. It is worth taking a break here to enjoy the superb view. If you are lucky, you may spot some curious marmots as you continue to the Pas de Lona mule track. You will catch a glimpse of the beautiful, turquoise-blue Lac de Lona.

Now comes the final short but steep section up to the Cabane des Becs de Bosson. This is just under 3,000 metres and is therefore the highest SAC hut on the Alpine Passes Trail. The hut’s cosy dining room offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountain landscape.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
