Via Alpina
Overview
Intro
After the rock barrier with the Reichenbach Falls, the trail runs along the valley floor. Hike past the nostalgic Rosenlaui Hotel and glacier gorge, enchanted by the Wetterhorn. The route then crosses beautiful moorlands over the Grosse Scheidegg to Grindelwald in the heart of the Jungfrau region.
Description
Over hills and dales along little trails to reach the first high plateau of this stage, Gschwantenmad. The Reichenbachtal has long been a popular destination and safe haven, which attracted many poets and artists to the region in the 18th century. The romantic landscapes tempt you with their lush green meadows and gently rolling hills, through which the Wildbach stream meanders, and the Rosenlaui Glacier, framed by the majestic Wetterhorn and Schreckhorn mountains.
Hikers will pass the Rosenlaui Hotel, which is steeped in tradition and which has welcomed guests since the 18th century, right at the entrance to the Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge. Only on reaching the top of the pass will the first views of the north face of the Eiger and the high peaks of the Bernese Oberland be revealed. From there, it is a rapid descent down to Grindelwald – back to civilisation.
