Opposite the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains, the route continues, going through Mürren, past the cosy Rotstockhütte and up to the Sefinenfurgge Pass with its spectacular views. This takes hikers into the Kien Valley, where the long descent to Griesalp begins. A stage that offers a bit of everything.
Description
The route begins in Lauterbrunnen. The 800 m ascent up to the sun terrace on which Mürren lies is rather lengthy, though mostly in the shade. Those who wish can also take the train to Mürren instead of hiking this section.
From Mürren, you then hike across lush meadows to reach the Rotstockhütte, where you can recharge your batteries before tackling the steep ascent to the Sefinenfurgge Pass. This pass offers breathtaking views of the Sefinen and Kien valleys as well as the surrounding mountains. The descent begins with a long set of steps through the striking black rock and scree. You will suddenly find yourself in a landscape that feels more like Iceland than the Swiss Alps. The path heads onwards past various babbling brooks and waterfalls to the end of the stage at Griesalp. After having hiked 22 km, it is time to relax at the Gasthaus Golderli, for example, where the breakfast buffet is quite something.
