Intro

From the mountain hotel on the Schynige Platte, follow the ridge from Lütschinental to Lake Brienz. With a view of the famous snowy mountains of the Bernese Oberland or the lake down in the valley, you reach the foot of the Faulhorn via narrow mountain paths. The route down to the gondola station on the First is wider.

Description

Shortly after the construction of the cogwheel railway from Wilderswil to the Schynige Platte in 1890, a first mountain hotel was also built there. After a fire, it was rebuilt and modernised. The narrow-gauge railway, electrified in 1914, only runs in the summer half-year and is considered a railway-historical attraction. Those who wish can explore the rich and meticulously labelled alpine flora in the alpine garden right next to the station before starting out on this stage.

The trail towards the First initially leads through the western flank to the summit of the Tuba, then further along a ridge and past the Loucherhorn. Along the way, the impressive view of the valley and lake Brienz is a constant reward. A rich variety of flora accompanies the hikers all the way to the First. Through the wild karst landscape near Güw, the mountain trail climbs up the flank of the Sägissa towards Berghaus Männdlenen. The Sägistal lake glistens deep below. On the other side of the valley, the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau triumvirate appears time and again. Climbing up from the Berghaus, located in a ridge, you continue past the Fulegg.

The foot of the Faulhorn, which got its name because of the poor stone quality of marl and slate, is reached via a wide ridge. A sidetrip to the Berghaus would be possible with an extra 30-minute walk. The southern flank of the Faulhorn is traversed with less effort. The descent follows on a wide but quite steep path to the Bachalp lake, in which the Wetterhorn, the Schreckhorn and other mountain peaks are reflected. On nice summer days, many day tourists visit this mountain lake because of the nearby cable car. The stage ends relatively flat at the top station of the First - Grindelwald cable car. In addition to overnight accommodation, attractions such as a cliff walk, a flight on the First Glider or scooter descents are offered here. With the last cable car ride, it gets quiet here too.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
