You leave the First cable car station on wide paths towards Grosse Scheidegg. The Eiger, Schreckhorn and Wetterhorn tower majestically above the Grindelwald valley. Soon the mountain path branches off from the natural road and winds through the mountain flanks of the Schilt and Gemschberg. At the refuge of Gratschärmen, you reach the wide road to Grosse Scheidegg, a popular crossing for mountain bikers and cyclists. Now you can enjoy the clear view down through the Rosenlaui valley into the Hasli valley.

The descent into the Rosenlaui valley continues along a mountain path that shortens the many turns of the road. Passing moor lakes, alder woods and herds of grazing cattle, the trail descends in a leisurely rhythm. At Schwandboden, the path changes to the right, shadier side of the valley and now runs along underneath the impressive rock walls of the Wellhorn. The Schwarzwaldalp with its inn is left behind, and you descend through alder thickets and a mountain forest directly to the Broch plain.

Now you follow the dam of the Rychenbach, and after the bridge, a path above the road to the entrance to the glacier gorge. This can be visited as the highlight of the day: on a well-secured path, you hike past massive waterfalls, romantic grottos and bizarre rock formations; the unbridled energy of the glacier water can be felt everywhere. From the glacier gorge it is only a few minutes to the historic Hotel Rosenlaui. The rooms, lounges and restaurant have been preserved in their original Belle Epoque condition from 1905. An overnight stay in this tradition-steeped house is a unique experience.
