Walserweg
Overview
Intro
The San Roc chapel is just as much a part of the former Walser settlement of Flix as sheep's cheese, moorland lakes and species-rich hay meadows. Former manganese mining area at Parsettens. The meringue on Alp d'Err sets you up for the climb to «Laiets» (lakes) at Pass d'Ela.
Description
Alp Flix is home to an impressive variety of species. The mix of meadows, moors, lakes and rocks provides a habitat for a wide range of local flora and fauna. The scenic hike starts from a high plateau at Alp Flix. Surrounded by flower-covered meadows, you hike towards Tgalucas. Passing by the Mongolian yurts, you climb around 500 metres in elevation. When you reach a little over 2,400 metres, you stay at this elevation for several kilometres. This section calls for a leisurely stroll and provides fantastic views over the mountains opposite.
After around three hours, you reach Alp d’Err, where marmots can be found – they are less shy here than elsewhere. However, they do give an alarm call if people get too close to them. With a bit of luck, you can also spot red deer, chamoises, ibex, golden eagles and bearded vultures in this area.
The Walserweg trail now branches off to the right, and you leave the national Alpine Passes Trail. The sometimes steep ascent covers 500 metres or so of elevation. The landscape changes between 2,400 and 2,700 metres of elevation. Gravel now dominates. After crossing the Ela Pass, the final hour of the hike begins. Surrounded – or rather encircled – by the slopes of the Piz Spadlatscha, Uglix, Ela and Corn da Tinizong mountains, you continue on to Chamonas d’Ela. The hike ends at the SAC hut.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
