At an altitude of 2,537m, this mountain lake provides the perfect photo backdrop, with direct views of the magnificent Matterhorn. On a clear, calm day, the lake is also renowned as a “mirror lake”, when the Matterhorn is perfectly reflected in the surface of the lake.
Lake Stelli at a glance
Setting out from Blauherd, which is also the starting point of the cable car to the Rothorn, it takes approx. 20-30 minutes to walk to Lake Stelli. The hike offers wonderful views of the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and the Findel Glacier. The intermediate route from Sunnegga to Blauherd also links a number of other mountain lakes.
In addition, the area is known for its rare alpine flowers that bloom from early summer to autumn. Surrounded by mountains, the landscape is rocky and wild. The Valais black-nosed sheep, the emblem of Zermatt, is native to the Valais and has black and white markings and thick wool
