Iconic, majestic and world-famous: Even the view from Zermatt is enough to reveal the inescapable fascination of the Matterhorn. The Gornergrat offers one of the best views of the unique mountain. The view of the Matterhorn from the Sunnegga or the Rothorn is just as magnificent. An ascent of the Matterhorn should only be attempted by experienced alpinists accompanied by a mountain guide.

Glacier paradise on the Klein Matterhorn

You can take a cable car to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. At 3,883 metres, the Klein Matterhorn is the highest mountain station in Europe. The viewing platform affords a fantastic view of the Matterhorn and a sensational 360-degree view of the surrounding Alps. Alternatively, you can visit the Glacier Palace and marvel at fascinating ice sculptures and centuries-old ice formations.

The Matterhorn as a backdrop for hikes and winter sports

With the Matterhorn always in view, you can enjoy fantastic hikes of all levels of difficulty in summer, such as the 5-Lakes Trail or the Matterhorn Glacier Trail. On the circular hike around the Riffelsee lake, you will observe the Matterhorn reflected in the water. In winter, the slopes on the Matterhorn are a true winter sports paradise. The Matterhorn Ski Paradise is one of the largest in the Alps.

Around the Matterhorn

The region around the Matterhorn is a true natural idyll. From the Gornergrat you have a magnificent view of the 4,478-metre-high mountain and many other four-thousand-metre peaks. At 2,583 metres, the Schwarzsee lake is an ideal starting point for various hikes. From Zermatt you can reach the charming villages of Täsch and Randa in about 15 minutes. In Randa, you can cross the famous Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge.
