Museums in Graubünden

This old building on the Poststrasse seems rather insignificant from the outside and you may have already walked past it without knowing what is behind the walls. In fact, this newly renovated Baroque building is a real gem. The Graubünden Cantonal Court is now housed here.

Maienfeld in the distinctive Bündner Herrschaft region of Graubünden inspired the poetess Johanna Spyri to write her novel Heidi. In the Heidi village, the story of this cheerful, nature-loving little orphan girl comes to life at the original locales of the story.

Immerse into the depths of the earth at the place of the former Silberberg mining works. The exciting story of the mining industry is also vividly told in the Grisons mining museum.

In the 13th century, the German-speaking Walsers settled the mountainous areas in Davos and Klosters. In the remotest area of the romantic side valley of Sertig, farming settlements still dominate the landscape.

The Viticulture Museum "Torculum" presents a fascinating exhibition that allows visitors to see the work and events inside and outside the Torculum. At the same time, the Viticultural Museum is a place that is ideal for social events.

The idyllically situated wine-making village of Jenins boasts an attraction that is unique in the world: the Greisinger Museum. It is dedicated to the world of English fantasy writer J. R. R. Tolkien: Middle-earth. Tolkien became famous for books like “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings”.

Founded in 1991, the gallery is located in the heart of the Old Town of Chur. About seven exhibitions by individual artists and group exhibitions are held each year.

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner moved from Germany to Davos in 1917, in the hope of overcoming his tablet addiction. The expressionist spent the last 20 years of his life painting in the Graubünden mountains. His works are today admired in the Kirchner Museum - a highly regarded construction by the architects Gigon / Guyer.
