Choreographer Erika Zueneli brings together five dancers and a musician in an ode to lightness. A playful and touching performance of dance and spoken word that celebrates the ephemeral and the extravagant.
A young man warmly welcomes us and warns us: “Here, we don’t do everything we say, and we don’t say everything we do. Here, anything goes.” The stage is set, and this lighthearted introduction opens the door to all manner of whimsy. In a ceaseless series of costume changes, the performers and the live musician accompanying them indulge in an absurd dance, sing a little song in Italian, blend “Niagara” with Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring,” and cheerfully comment on their own performances. Celebrating the joys of ineffectiveness, the play creates a space to discuss our times, desire, and the fear of the end. We laugh, we’re moved as well, but above all, we leave with that strange feeling of having held, for the duration of a performance, the elusive in our hands.
* Age: Recommended for ages 11–12 and up
* Doors open 1 hour before the performance
