Since the 12th century, writing, learning, and the passing on of knowledge have taken place in the Engelberg Monastery. This more than thousand-year-old tradition is experienced in a special way in the calligraphy courses.
Historical insights into medieval writing art are combined with practical work using pen and ink. This creates an inspiring approach to calligraphy – creative, focused, and decelerating.
As a calligraphy weekend with overnight stays at the monastery, the offer invites participants to dive into the world of writing and get to know the rhythm of the monastery.
This is what to expect

Creation of a personal calligraphic final project
Accommodation and meals at the monasterySchedule – Calligraphy Weekend at the Monastery
Friday: Arrival, introduction to calligraphy, first exercises, evening prayer, and communal dinner
Saturday: Practical work with pen and ink, deepening of script forms, time for personal designs, participation in prayer times, communal meals, quiet evening time
Sunday: Work on the final project, time of silence, lunch, concluding circle, and farewell (around 1:30 p.m.)
Suitable for
Youth from 14 years old accompanied by an adult or students aged 18 and over, and adults (individuals or couples). Suitable for beginners as well as participants with some prior knowledge.
Remarks
This course is not traditional teaching, but a holistic experience of craftsmanship, history, silence, and concentration.
