Introducción
Located between lush Alpine meadows and steep rock formations, this easily accessible circular hike unfolds in the Glarnerland, allowing you to experience the rich diversity of the Glarus mountains.
The hike from Mettmenalp to Elm begins down in the valley, in relaxing style. Starting out from Schwanden, the hikers take the bus up to Kies, and from here they ascend to the Mettmenalp courtesy of a cable car. It is from here that the hike really begins – or ends – depending on the direction chosen for the round tour.
Whether as a chance to fuel up in anticipation of a particularly active day or as a reward afterwards – a visit to the Berghotel Mettmen is always well worthwhile. With its regional specialities, warm hospitality, and glorious, far-reaching views of the Glarnerland, it is a perfect place to stop by and relax for a while.
Just a few steps away is the glittering Garichtisee lake – a popular destination for outings, set against an impressive mountain backdrop. The ascent to the highest point on the route, the Wildmadfurggeli, leads over lush Alpine meadows and past steep rock faces. For those who enjoy climbing, there is even a climbing practice wall to be found along the way. After having walked for almost two hours, hikers are rewarded for their efforts with entirely new perspectives: from here, the views are dominated by the striking Tschingelhörner and the legendary Martinsloch.
The descent towards Elm leads hikers down through unspoilt nature, and past wild mountain lakes and impressive rocky outcrops. At Ämpächli, the cable car is waiting to take the hikers on a relaxing trip back down to the valley, where the circular hike comes to a harmonious end.
The round ticket makes the entire route especially convenient – seamless bus and cable car connections mean that this experience is easily accessible.
