During the summer months, life for residents of Bern revolves around the waters of their beloved Aare. You can’t get closer to the river than sleeping on its banks and there are a whole host of places for tired water babies to rest their heads.
Bern Youth Hostel in the Marzili district, for example, boasts views directly over the Aare. Those who prefer to sleep outside can do so at Camping Eichholz: there’s no better feeling than opening the zip of your tent in the morning, poking your head outside and seeing the shimmering turquoise waters of the river there in front of you. And then there’s the Zollhaus. Located on the Nydeggbrücke bridge, this bijou hotel boasts views over the Aare, the Bear Park and Bern’s Old Town.
