This work by the German artist belongs to a group that arrived in Canton Ticino in 1956 thanks to the gift of Baron Eduard von der Heydt (1882-1964), an important collector, and the owner, from 1926, of the Monte Verità in Ascona. Rohlfs approached the Die Brüke group when he was close to sixty years of age, and in the 1910s he developed an Expressionist language characterized by the stylization of the forms and the application of the paint in pure tonalities.
