메레 오펜하임 타워 분수
삶의 일부를 스위스에서 보냈던 예술가 메레 오펜하임은 1983년 바이젠하우스 광장에 8m의 분수를 세웠다. 분수 위에 설치된 조명과 나선형 관개 시스템을 이용해 콘크리트 기둥 주위를 도는 물은 이 작품의 핵심적 요소이다.
하지만, 이 분수를 진정으로 특별하게 만드는 것은 기둥 주위에서 번성하고 있는 식물들과 응회암이라 할 수 있다. 여름이면 폭신한 이끼와 야생 식물들이 콘크리트를 뒤덮어 분수는 마치 커다란 녹색괴물처럼 보인다. 겨울철 얼음과 한기가 기둥을 덮치면 나비의 고치를 떠올리게 한다. 메레 오펜하임은 분수를 생명과 성장의 상징으로 여겼기 때문에 이러한 변화를 본다면 매우 기뻐했을 것이다.
