The Art Museum Winterthur possesses one of the most beautiful modern art collections in Switzerland. But artistic works don’t come to a halt here - as the building constructed in 1995 by the Zurich-based architects Gigon & Guyer makes the hearts of even less passionate art lovers beat faster.
Since the inauguration of the new building in 1995, the Kunstverein Winterthur can permanently exhibit part of its splendid collection. The mature old building now houses an overwhelming collection of French masterpieces from the impressionist period, as well as other more modern art movements.
Visitors also encounter famous names such as Monet, Van Gogh, Kandinsky and Picasso - but the architecturally contrasting new building is both home to established as well as hardly known contemporary artists; well on the way to making themselves known courtesy of changing exhibitions.
The Kunstmuseum, Museum Oskar Reinhart and Villa Flora joined together in 2018 and can now boast of an exceptional collection. The museum will continue to preserve its traditions, intensify the exchange between collections and present these in changing configurations. All museums offer regular guided tours and events.
