The Kunsthalle was founded on the initiative of the Bernese artists. Since its opening on October 5, 1918, the Kunsthalle Bern has presented the public with a broad spectrum of Bernese and international art. It has achieved world fame with solo exhibitions of artists such as Klee, Giacometti, Moore, Johns, LeWitt, Nauman, Buren etc. and with thematic exhibitions such as Szeemann's "When Attitudes Become Form". The Kunsthalle Bern sees itself as a place for artistic debate and critical questioning of the phenomena of our time. Six to seven group and solo exhibitions are organized annually, as well as public tours, lectures and talks.
