Basel is the Swiss architectural Mecca - as seen on setting foot inside the Museum of Architecture on the Barfüsserplatz in Basel. However, it’s not only the sum of famous Basel buildings you get acquainted with here - instead, intelligent and innovative exhibitions encourage debates on dealing with the different facets of modern architecture.
Fondly known as SAM by those who know it well, focus of the Swiss Architecture Museum is on contemporary architecture. In carefully crafted and intelligently curated exhibitions, current issues as well as unexpected aspects are skilfully dealt with and conveyed. Whether such debates directly concern Swiss architecture in movies or buildings with spectacular views in fact makes no difference at all.
The SAM specializes in temporary exhibitions - and four times a year visitors meet with new and exciting exhibitions. Commonality of the shared dialogue concerns all features of architecture from past to present and different disciplines. Through their very clear and sensual design, these exhibitions not only interest professional but also inspire the general public.
