Locher Brewery - traditional, innovative and pioneers in sustainability
Intro
Appenzell beer from the Brauerei Locher is a truly iconic product that can be found all across Switzerland. Now in their fifth generation, the Locher family has been brewing their beer in Appenzell since 1886.
The diversity of the brewery
Today, the range includes over 40 different beer specialties. But there's more: Fine single malt whisky is just as much a part of it as delicacies made from side streams. These include balsamic beer vinegars or the "brewbee specialties". In the latter, brewer's grains are integrated into sustainable food.
Experience beer with all your senses
And then there is the visitor experience "Brauquöll". During a tour, visitors learn everything about the Appenzell art of brewing. For example, how fresh water is turned into beer or malt. In addition, you will learn everything about the history of the brewery. Of course, there will also be tasting and there will be a shop with all products and selected fan articles. Cheers!
It almost doesn't get more sustainable than this
Good from good. That's a brief summary of what "brewbee" is. The "brewbee" family includes brewer's grain chips as well as pizza, plant-based ghackets and gschnetzlets. In this way, Locher rescues valuable, unused by-products from the brewery and transforms them into enjoyable food. Because the environment and resources are conserved in this way, you can enjoy it wholeheartedly and with a clear conscience. Locher is tirelessly working on sustainable solutions to reduce food waste in the brewing process. Än Guätä.
Brewbee combines upcycling with enjoyment - for us, this is sustainability in action
Sustainability outside the brewery
Switzerland Tourism and Brauerei Locher AG work together because both are pioneers in sustainability. This is what the label Swisstainable stands for in tourism. Protecting our nature is the top priority.
Sustainable experiences in Eastern Switzerland and throughout the country
The treetop walk in the Neckertal, an art tour through St. Gallen or the Whisky Trek in the Alpstein. Switzerland's sustainable experiences are as diverse as the country.
Sustainable destinations
In addition to tourist businesses, there are entire destinations in Switzerland that are committed to sustainability.
