Intro

Already impressive ascent along the foot of the Eiger North Wall to Kleine Scheidegg. Absolute highlight: the descent to Lauterbrunnen in the majestic company of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau - simply breathtaking.

Description

Grindelwald, also known as “Eigerdorf”, is surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. After crossing the White Lütschine river, you begin to climb. The dominant north face of the Eiger is in view at every turn. Anyone who wants to divert their attention from their burning leg muscles should think of the history: The first climbers took three days to ascend the 1,800-metre north face. Today, the record is under 2.5 hours – solo. If you still need a little more distraction from the climb, you can look for the cog railway after every bend. This goes through the mountain towards the Jungfraujoch.

Shortly before the treeline, you can see a snow-white, pyramid-shaped peak in the distance. It’s the Silberhorn, also known as the Silberhorn-Sprung, part of the Lauberhorn downhill ski course, which is the longest downhill course in Alpine ski racing. Shortly after this, you can see the first destination for this stage: the Hotel Bellevue des Alpes on the Kleine Scheidegg, which you will soon reach. It’s crazy: While you’ve barely seen a soul for the last few hours, here, there are suddenly hundreds of people. But it’s no wonder given this mountain scenery.

You now have a long, fast-paced descent to Wengen. Halfway down, you can see Mürren on the opposite side of the valley, and beyond, the white peaks of the Breithorn, Tschingelhorn and Gspaltenhorn. Travelling at high speed, you soon reach Wengen. If you didn’t take a break on the Kleine Scheidegg, you should stop here and enjoy the view of the Jungfrau and Silberhorn before cycling the 500 metres of elevation down to Lauterbrunnen.

Part of the route down takes you on the “Hohstäg”. This was a classic trip taken by many tourists in the 18th century, who wanted to experience the Alps up close. You travel down to Lauterbrunnen via numerous hairpin bends. And here again, after meeting only a handful of people on your way down, it’s suddenly bustling with tourists from around the world in the few kilometres between the first and second crossing of the Weisse Lütschine river.

After leaving the tourist mecca, you follow the rushing river until Wilderswil. You then cross the motorway and go through the residential areas of Interlaken – and you’ve reached the destination for this impressive, both deserted and crowded stage.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
