Overview
Intro
The resort of Les Prés-d’Orvin can be reached via Mont Sujet. With one last Jura fold after Magglingen, the place where the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport is located has to be climbed at the end. The reward: a wide view of the Jura border lakes, the Swiss Plateau and the Alps.
Description
You leave Nods with its characteristic communal tower through an avenue of ash trees. The view opens up over the wide Plateau de Diesse. A forest path follows the pastures of La Rochalle with its mighty spruces. Through the Combe Robert and again across open pastures, you climb the approx. 500 metres in altitude to Mont Sujet. Several alpine dairies make use of the meadows of the flat mountain top with their cattle. The highest point of Mont Sujet above the Bergerie du Haut is reached via a path that is not immediately recognisable. Now the view widens towards the lakes of Biel, Neuchâtel and Murten, the Mittelland and the alps. In the other direction, the nearby Chasseral and the neighbouring Jura chains are still visible.
First, the route follows a dirt road to Noire Combe. Passing the ski lifts of the small tourist resort of Les Prés-d'Orvin, you slowly descend along a road from the Jura heights to the edge of the holiday village. At La Bragarde, a pleasant restaurant terrace invites you to take a break. After a last steep descent through the forest, you reach the lowest point of the downhill passage into the valley of Orvin.
Via a slightly ascending, shady forest path, you approach the next Jura hill and the "end of the world". This is the name of the sports facilities of the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport in Magglingen, which you come across as you leave the forest. A gentle descent along a small road leads down to the top station of the Biel-Magglingen funicular and the village of the same name. On a clear day you can once again enjoy the view over the lakes, the Mittelland and the alps.
