GHOSTS
GER 2026 / Director: Fatih Akin
A poetic drama set between life and death, dream and reality: In his new film, Fatih Akin tells an extraordinary love story. Farasha (Mariam Dawoud) and Faris (Eren M. Güvercin) meet at a high school graduation party. Both are 20 years old, and although they’ve known each other for only a few hours, they’re immediately drawn to one another. But their night together takes a tragic turn: Farasha dies that very same evening. For Faris, this marks the beginning of a period of mourning, while Farasha herself searches for a way to remain close to him. Eventually, an unusual path opens up for her, one that reconnects the two. For forty nights, she is able to meet Faris in his dreams. There, they have the opportunity to continue their relationship and spend time together—time they didn’t have left in real life. With each passing night, they grow closer, yet at the same time they become increasingly aware that even this special connection is of limited duration. The number of nights remaining dwindles, and the time to say goodbye draws inexorably nearer. As their final night together begins, Farasha and Faris must face a decisive moment.
