Intro

On a beautiful Sunday in May, the pupils of the Reformed School of Poschiavo, accompanied by numerous adults, go on an excursion to the small church on the Maiensäss Selva, located about an hour’s walk above the village.

The origin of this religious school tradition dates back at least to the 19th century. At that time, people began to go regularly in spring to the church, which had already been built in the 17th century. After the ascent, completed more or less quickly, the participants gather for an evangelical service. Then the traditional polenta is distributed to everyone, made more digestible with wine or coffee with milk. The afternoon is dedicated to theatrical performances and sports competitions, and after sunset the group descends back to the valley. The day concludes with the collective entry into the village and a short speech by an adult.
