This film concert offers a lively and contemporary reinterpretation of Sherlock Junior by Buster Keaton, featuring original music by Julien Painot performed live by the Quatuor Essor.
As a burlesque film of striking modernity, Sherlock Junior provides an ideal platform for a tailor-made sound creation, closely engaging with the rhythm, humour, and emotions of the images. The music, balancing precise composition and skilled improvisation, respects the keatonian spirit while adding a contemporary perspective. The hybrid instrumentation (piano, synthesiser, acoustic and electronic percussion) blends the tradition of silent cinema with contemporary sound exploration.

The Quatuor Essor has received the cultural prize for emergence 2025 awarded by the Agglomeration of Fribourg.
