After hearing his aunt play Chopin on his ninth birthday, Eric wants to understand the magic of this music for himself. But despite practicing intensely, he is unable to produce those special sounds. It is only as a student in Paris that he meets the eccentric piano teacher Madame Pylinska.
Through unusual exercises, she shows him a new way to approach Chopin—and to himself.
This short novel by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt is a tribute to his teacher and tells the story of the search for art, beauty, and self-discovery.
