at the Stockalper Castle Museum
The Stockalper Castle Museum is hosting the ‘Passage Simplon’ exhibition on the ground floor of Stockalper Castle, which, across an area of around 200 m², explores the eventful history of the Simplon Pass, organised into seven themes.Transport-related achievements, such as the construction of the Simplon Tunnel or the operation of the national road across the pass, are brought to life just as vividly as the first flight across the Alps from Brig to Domodossola by Geo Chavez (1887–1910) in 1910, and the groundbreaking invention of the first tar-based road surfacing by the Brig-based doctor and adventurer Guglieminetti (1862–1943).A special room is dedicated to the famous patron who commissioned the castle complex, Kaspar Stockalper vom Thurm (1609–1691), who achieved wealth, fame and honour as a politician and multi-talented entrepreneur.Admission to the exhibition is free.
