Intro

This trail leads past 17 churches and chapels. These witnesses of the past are strung along the ancient Lucerne - Aarburg route. The openness and breadth of the hilly landscape of Canton Lucerne with Mts. Pilatus, Napf and Menzberg radiates welcome.

Description

The trail leads through the Rot Valley, Lucerne's breadbasket. After a short ascent above meadows and woodland, a glance back reveals the industry of Emmen and Ebikon with Mt. Rigi on the left and Mt. Pilatus on the right. At the Huob Chapel, the eye takes in the entire length of the Rot Valley. Charming farms are everywhere to be seen.

The mighty baroque church of Ruswil is of national significance. Leaving the closely packed houses, the trail now descends amid open countryside. Arriving at the 14 Holy Helpers in St. Ulrich and the unique central structure of St. Ottilia, built in a rococo style with a Byzantine appearance, we reach the trail's halfway point.

Midway through the heritage village scene of Buttisholz with its baroque church, the trail follows the Roman road to Oberroth Chapel in Grosswangen. Intensively farmed fertile fields border the trail through Grosswangen all the way to Ettiswil. The 17 chapels and churches along the way bear witness to a life filled with vibrancy.
