뜨개질을 하는 소녀(Knitting girl)
스위스 화가 알베르트 안케(Albert Anker)의 작품에는 19세기 말 베르너 호수 지역(Bernese Seeland)에 살던 시골 사람들의 생활 환경이 고스란히 반영되어 있다. 특히 어린이와 노인들에 대한 실제적인 묘사는 그의 뛰어난 테크닉과 대상에 대한 공감을 잘 보여준다. 뜨개질에 완전히 몰두하고 있는 소녀의 옆모습은 어두운 배경 속에서 밝게 드러나 있다. 그녀 옆에 놓인 교과서는 당시 도입된 어린이들을 위한 의무교육에 대해 이야기 하고 있다.
