스위스 출신 사진가이자 그래픽 디자이너인 허버트 마터(Herbert Matter)는 스위스 현대 사진 포스터의 창시자로 여겨진다. 1930년대 초 그는 이전에는 주로 손으로 그린 삽화로 제작되던 광고에 사진을 접목하기 시작했다. 스위스관광청 홍보를 위해 제작한 멋진 그래픽 작품들로 그는 관광 산업을 위한 완전히 새로운 미학적 영역을 구축했다.
