After a challenging summer, the alpine teams are heading home. At the alpine reception, a speaker will share interesting facts about the alpine summer and the herdsmen.
After a challenging summer, the alpine teams are returning home. At the alpine welcome event in Näfels, a speaker will share interesting facts about the 2026 alpine summer and the returning herdsmen from the Obersee and Schwändi valleys.
The festival grounds near the Dorf schoolhouse in Näfels open at 9 a.m. with a small market and a food stand where you can grab a bite. It’s worth arriving early. The herdsmen have a rough schedule.
From about 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., four alpine families will be welcomed; they’ll all be making the journey on foot from their alpine pastures down into the valley.
Visitors are encouraged to travel to Näfels by public transportation or bike. The Näfels train station is only about 15 minutes from the festival grounds in the village.

The festival grounds open at 9 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. The dairymaids are expected to arrive between approximately 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
