Overview
Intro
The 15th edition of the Figura Theater Festival will take place in and around Baden from June 16 to 21, 2026.
Since 1994, the international theatre festival of animated forms has been presenting productions from Switzerland and abroad every two years, including numerous Swiss premieres.
At this year’s 17th edition of the Figura Theatre Festival, 31 first-class productions from 16 countries will take to the stages and streets of Baden, Wettingen and Aarau over six days.
The festival opens with the production ‘Arctic Tall Tales’ by the Canadian group ‘La ruée vers l’or’. The piece is based on ‘Racontars arctiques’ (published in German under the title ‘Grönland Odyssee’) by Hervé Tanquerelle and Gwen De Bonneval, who adapted Jørn Riel’s Greenland experiences into a comic. ‘La ruée vers l’or’ bring these stories, full of humour and humanity, to the stage in a blend of puppetry, storytelling, music and live sound effects.
As part of the festival, the Government Council of the Canton of Aargau will award the coveted ‘Grünschnabel’ prize for young puppet theatre for the 12th time. All five nominated productions can be seen during the festival.
The festival offers not only a wide variety of productions but also a diverse range of venues. Performances will take place on theatre stages of all sizes, as well as in a yurt and a caravan, on streets, in squares and in an underpass. For the first time, the Figura Theatre Festival 2026 will also present a production in Aarau.
The programme features poetic, humorous, whimsical and thought-provoking productions for adults, young people and children. FIGURA has held the ‘Kultur inklusiv’ label since 2018.
