Die fünfzehnjährige Emma, die nach einer Vergewaltigung schwanger ist, fordert ihre protestantische und repressive ländliche Gemeinschaft heraus, um sich einen Weg zur Selbstbestimmung zu bahnen. Indem sie das Trauma in einen Katalysator der Emanzipation verwandelt, stellt sie sich der moralischen Heuchelei des Dorfes und dem Gespenst des Zweiten Weltkriegs, das sie umgibt.
