While Bonis incorporates Debussy's impressionistic sounds in her works, she never truly abandons the Late-Romantic, passionate level of expression. The program concludes with a confrontation between the six fascinating Etudes of Einojuhani Rautavaara—perhaps the most important Finnish composer of the later 20th century—and the Ballade by the Norwegian Edvard Grieg. The Ballade, in the form of 24 variations on a Norwegian folk song, is Grieg's most significant work for piano.More about the Piano Week 2026More about Mel Bonis | Composer to Discover 2026Playlist ‘Piano Week 2026’ on Spotify
