... As we all know, when it’s hot, light fare is easier on the stomach ... . Our summer program features mostly cheerful keys, catchy melodies, and rousing motifs. And we, the performers, bring to the table a joy of playing, as well as a healthy dose of agility and lightness.

All three works, which we present to you under the baton of our conductor Georg Sonnleitner, were composed during turbulent times: in the years following the French Revolution.

Heroism and defeat, ideals and disappointments: much of this flows into the two works by Ludwig van Beethoven that frame our concert. The way Beethoven incorporates these themes into his music is very accessible and may give us inspiration as we navigate our own turbulent times...

The concert opens with the “Prometheus” Overture. With dazzling energy and verve, it opens up a vast sonic space that sets the perfect stage for Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto. Our soloist, Romain Leleu, will make you forget the difficulties of the solo part and transport you into the rich soundscape of Viennese Classicism on the threshold of Early Romanticism.

After intermission, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, “Eroica,” gains momentum with two powerful chords and the famous triad theme, which the cellos are the first to introduce.
