Intro
From the picturesque setting of Kandersteg with its romantic traditional wooden chalets, the path heads up to the steep rock walls of the Lohner. Onwards to the Bunderchrinde Pass, with unique stone formations that are just waiting to be climbed for a real adventure.
Description
From charming Kandersteg it is time to ascend the Lohner, with the path first going steeply up through a forest. Along hiking trails that are narrow and covered in roots, the view clears and reveals steep rock faces. Look closely to see the venturesome ibexes as they jump around without a care in the world. Before clambering up the Bunderchrinde, take a little break in a cosy “Beiz” establishment on the steep hillside. With a little luck, freshly baked goods will just be coming out the oven and can be enjoyed accompanied by a friendly chat with the couple who look after the hut over the summer months.
From there, head onwards to the Bunderchrinde Pass, which resembles a cauldron owing to the distinctive rock formation. In Bernese German, Chrinde means something like groove or trough. A narrow trail that runs parallel to the ridge takes hikers to their destination. A good head for heights is a great advantage on this stage. Once at the top, look down into the valley towards Adelboden – the end of this stage.
