Jakobsweg Graubünden
Overview
Intro
Squirrels accompany one to the Schatzalp, after which every step of the way changes with a view of the Jakobshorn. On over the Strelapass - inhabited in the 14th century by the Walser Arosa - followed by a rocky valley descent to pastures and the Walser settlement, Dörfji – as well as the homely Graubünden mountain village, Langwies.
Description
Around 700 years ago, Valais families dared to cross the Alps, left their homeland behind them and settled in the canton of Grisons, where they became Walsers. Their culture and customs shaped the town of Davos. By clearing forest areas, they created scattered settlements to make themselves self-sufficient.
The ninth stage begins at Davos railway station. When you leave the village, the trail leads through the forest up to Schatzalp. The luxury hotel Schatzalp was built in 1900 and has retained its Art Nouveau structure to this day.
The hiking trail winds further uphill above the Schiatobel towards the Strela Pass. Gross and Chlein Schiahorn are with you on this trail. And looking backwards, you will be impressed by the breathtaking view of the mountain peaks all the way to the Engadin. As early as the 14th century, the Walser people used this route to go from Davos to Arosa via Langwies and settled there. Once you have reached the Strela Pass, the mountain restaurant invites you to take a break.
There is now a steep descent through the rock gallery into the Haupter Tälli with a wide-ranging panoramic view. From Innerhaupt, the beautiful path leads onto a gravel road. Along the Haupertällibach stream, the stage passes the charming Heimeli mountain guest house, a typical Walser house from 1707. Pastureland stretches to the left and right of the path up to the Walser settlement of Dörfji. Sapün Dörfji, together with Strassberg im Fondei and Medergen, is one of the Langwies townscapes of national importance. After that, the last hour of hiking begins to reach the destination for this stage in Langwies.
