All hikes: Over a pass

The mountain pass area of the Klausen is without doubt one of the most beautiful in Switzerland. The high-altitude track lpasses through fantastic landscapes, majestic mountains and unique flora and fauna.

From the picturesque setting of Kandersteg with its romantic traditional wooden chalets, the path heads up to the steep rock walls of the Lohner. Onwards to the Bunderchrinde Pass, with unique stone formations that are just waiting to be climbed for a real adventure.

The long-distance Trans Swiss Trail from Porrentruy to Mendrisio is one of the last great adventures in highly-developed Switzerland. A variety of landscapes, cultures and places of interest await along the 32 stages of the 488-km trail.

From the Bernese Oberland into the Valais and on to Vaud. The Sanetsch-Muveran-Weg has stunning panoramic views and landscape elements in store: Les Diablerets, the Tsanfleuron karst field and the Derborence landslide area.

As with almost every large town Chur naturally has it’s own mountain. In comparison with the hill-like Uetliberg at Zürich, the people of Chur have a really big mountain in front of the town, the Calanda. A three day mountain hike leads from Haldenstein in the Rhine valley up to the Calanda cabin and over the Kunkel pass to the Ringelspitz cabin.

The Tour des Muverans is a four-day trek around the Grand Muveran peak. This little-known tour features six passes, countless mountain huts and magnificent views of the Valaisian and Vaud Alps, the striking Dents du Midi and Mont Blanc. An enjoyable trek off the beaten path.

The San Roc chapel is just as much a part of the former Walser settlement of Flix as sheep's cheese, moorland lakes and species-rich hay meadows. Former manganese mining area at Parsettens. The meringue on Alp d'Err sets you up for the climb to «Laiets» (lakes) at Pass d'Ela.

Two-day hike straight through the Alpstein, from Appenzellerland to Obertoggenburg in the Canton of St. Gallen, with an overnight stay in the Berggasthaus Rotsteinpass.

Davos: once extensive forests, in which 12 Walser farmsteads were built in around 128 in addition to the 2 existing Rhaeto-Romanic farmsteads, today an Alpine town. Picturesque Stafelalp was the retreat of the German painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Along urban roads passing mountains dedicated to skiing to Arosa.

The route follows paving of the old mule track to the pass of passes. Vast variety of colourful Alpine flora. The striking ventilation plant of the Gotthard road tunnel is like a music pavilion. At pass head, interesting museum on post-coach times.

The old mule track is a walk through history and the world of the Kraftwerke Oberhasli power company. From the dam to the works railway, many facilities are accessible – guaranteeing many memorable moments.

Impressive path through the glacier-eroded karst fields of Lapis de Tsanfleuron. Towering over the path, Les Diablerets and Teufelskegel (devil's basin); an exposed passage (Poteu des Etales), secured by steel ropes into the landslide area of Derborence.

Surrounded by an impressive mountain landscape from Pontresina through the Val Bernina and over the Bernina Pass to Alp Grüm. Insight into the effects of climate change in Pontresina and Morteratsch and views from Alp Grüm into Val Poschiavo.

Traces of past centuries are evident between Bivio and the Septimerpass. On the other side of the pass is the Bergell, where Segantini painted some of his most significant works in Soglio. Segantini was buried in Maloja in 1899.

The Senda Sursilvana affords an insight into a whole region, one which holds many natural and cultural treasures. A high-level hike with several detours to the banks of the young Rhine.

The trail leads over two rises to the scenic Trübsee lake at the foot of the Titlis and on over the Joch Pass into the Bernese Oberland. The destination is the Engstlenalp, an idyllic power spot with a lake, a nostalgic hotel and thousands of Alpine roses.

The Kesch Trek offers four days of spectacular hiking in the Graubünden mountains. Stunning mountain scenery with wild valleys, rugged peaks and imposing glacier landscapes.

This trail takes you to the alpine foothill landscape of Appenzellerland, from Urnäsch to Alpweiden at the foot of Säntis and Schwägalp. From the Hochalp to the Schwägalp you will walk through the Schwägalp natural park, a protected natural site with a very special appeal.

The sweeping view of Lake Geneva and the descent into the unforgettable Pro Natura nature conservation area of Vallon de Nante make this a truly beautiful stage.

A cultural and long-distance hiking trail through exceptionally charming landscape. This trail is 65km long and runs from Thusis through the Viamala Gorge, the Roffla Gorge and on stone paths over Splügen Pass to Chiavenna. It is on the third leg, from the Walser village of Splügen to Isola in Italy, where you'll find the most beautiful historic remains of trails.

Opposite the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains, the route continues, going through Mürren, past the cosy Rotstockhütte and up to the Sefinenfurgge Pass with its spectacular views. This takes hikers into the Kien Valley, where the long descent to Griesalp begins. A stage that offers a bit of everything.

The Walser people settled in Schlappin in the 14th century. Through the protective forest up to the area of Saaser alp. Karst landscape on Rätschenjoch, former mining area in «Butzchammera», rockfall landscape in Gafital, scattered settlements on the slopes, at the end a closed-off settlement in St. Antönien Platz.

Gentle climb alongside the Glisbach stream, through forest and moorland, over the Hahnenmoos Pass, then down to Lenk, superbly set in the Hinter Simmental basin, with spectacular waterfalls and the perfect backdrop of the Wildstrubel massif.

The Senda Segantini is a unique hiking route through the incomparable Engadin and Sursetter mountain landscape. It follows the footsteps of Italian painter Giovanni Segantini (1858 -1899), the great master of combining realism with symbolism.

Here the focus is on the spectacular rock path through the upper Val d’Uina, a former smugglers’ route recommended for those with a head for heights. Up on the pass and already on Italian soil is the generously dimensioned Sesvenna-Berghaus.

After the Wakker(conservation)prize village of Elm, the nearby Tschingelhoren with the Martinsloch never fails to fascinate on the tour over the Segnapass. On the descent, after the Segnasboden flood plains and moorland, the landscape is increasingly shaped by the Flims rockslide.

Enjoy the magnificent panoramic view from the mountain chain with the Tête de Ran and Mont Racine peaks. From the Rocher des Tablettes, you can take in the breathtaking view down to Lake Neuchâtel before you begin the steep descent to Noiraigue.

From the Rhône Valley directly into Val de Bagnes, past the Grand Désert Glacier and over Col de Louvie – a challenging trail that requires a high level of fitness.

The trail snakes alongside the famous Tremola road down to Airolo. The skilfully-built bends have been immortalized in countless films. En route: spectacular views of the Leventina Valley with extended motorway entry and exit points.

The king’s stage over the 2778m-high Hohtürli. Rewarding detour to the Blümlisalphütte and eternal glacier ice. Down over moraine to beautiful, deep-blue Oeschinensee backed by steep cliffs; one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Alps.

Route between former Walser settlements and today’s famous tourist destinations of Klosters and Davos, over the Wolfgang Pass. Visit to Kirchner Art Museum in Davos.

Brünig offers a magnificent mountain panorama with the high Bernese Oberland summits and eternal snow. The trail leads along sunny slopes above the Brienzersee lake, allowing you to experience an exceptionally lovely landscape.

From Lenk, over rolling meadows, up into lynx territory, through a damp, eroded limestone region with views far into the distance. Over the Trüttlisberg Pass and through the long Turbachtal Valley with its varied history, down to the sophistication of Gstaad.

What would the Gotthard be without its access routes? The ViaGottardo reaches the central Alpine pass from Chiasso in the south, from Schaffhausen in the northeast and from Basel in the northwest of Switzerland. There are many traces of these transport links to discover along the way.
