All hikes: Through a gorge

The mule track over the Simplon, developed over 300 years ago by Kaspar Stockalper, has long handed over its economic importance to new roads. However, a few years ago it was reborn as a cultural hiking trail.

The route leaves Aigle via the vineyard to reach Gryonne and later the Rhone, which it crosses at Massongex, the old capital of Celtic Valais. At St-Maurice, pilgrims have covered exactly half the distance from Canterbury to Rome.

The ViaJura leads through the Birs and Schüss valleys from Basel via Delsberg to Biel. It runs over historically valuable sections, including the legend-steeped Glögglifelspass, the exposed Mont Raimeux and the Pierre Pertuis Roman rock arch.

Picturesque and rugged ravines that could almost be called fiords open up after Les Brenets. Polished by natural forces, the rock faces have the shape of a human face and the head of a legendary monster. The trail leads to the Saut du Doubs, a spectacular, 27m high waterfall.

A mountain hike with stunning views over the second and third chain of the Jura mountains. This ruggedly romantic trail through the Wolfsschlucht (Wolf Gorge) will get you in the mood for exploration and adventure. There are numerous mountain restaurant where you can stop for a break along the way.

From Moutier the ViaJura negotiates the Schlucht von Court (gorge) and reaches the village of Champoz via the mountain of Moron, on which stands a tower designed by Mario Botta. The route then follows the ridge before leading down to Sornetan.

Closely watched by the devil, the route leads from Wassen to Göschenen and through the bottleneck of the Schöllenenschlucht gorge to Andermatt. The sequence of historic routes, bridges, customs posts and hostels bring pre-modern transport to life.

This hike combines the legendary Val de Travers with the sun-drenched plateau of Ste-Croix. It offers one highlight after another, from the village of Môtiers and the bizarre gorge of Poëta Raisse through to the spectacular viewpoint on the Chasseron.

This interesting hike leads past unique and unspoilt scenery typical to the Jura region with its gorges, woods, meadows and rocky faces. Following far-reaching views seen from the Belchenflue and decent through woods and meadows, Olten invites you to stop for a pause along the River Aare.

The panoramic Braunwald path proposes a unique hiking experience by which you never lose sight of the mountains; although there’s a good chance you may be distracted by the beauty of Alpine flowers and the plant world.

A stage for railway fans: part of the trail runs right alongside the railway tracks, past Göschenen and Andermatt, which played important roles in Gotthard traffic history. In between the Schöllenenschlucht (gorge), shrouded in myth.

This hike is representative of the hiking paradise in the Fischingen region. A steady ascent in shady woods leads upwards to splendid, far-reaching views. Conglomerate rock gorges in the Alpine foothills alternate with gentle hilly landscapes.

Schmelzra and its old furnace ruins follow after S-charl. Then onwards to the turn into the Val Mingèr valley, through the mixed woods along Clemgia, descent through the Clemgia ravine, and on to the Inn district of the resort Scuol. (Previously know as Bad Scuol or Schuls).

Here there is gorgeous hiking through the beautiful Le Val Terbi area where you will experience wonderful nature - meadows, forests, canyons and pastures. This is a really nice walk, with attractive points: a forest hut (built in wood), a working taxidermist, UNESCO protected frescoes in a church.

Hollowed out by glaciers, the wild landscape of the Breccaschlund is both fascinating and mysterious. A circular walk, technically quite simple, leads from the Riggisalp, which overlooks the Schwarzsee, to the foot of some imposing cliffs. The return to the valley is punctuated with Alpine restaurants.

Ancient know-how discovery, from the Stone Age until our time: the Covatannaz Gorges represent a highlight of picturesque paths in the Jura. These gorges are located between Sainte-Croix and Vuiteboeuf and constitute a link between the Jura and the plain.

The Areuse stream roars through the gorge. This sometimes bold trail affords incredible views deep into this spectacle of nature. Even on hot summer days, a cool breeze blows.

This tour reveals the different aspects of the Thal Nature Park. It begins with a climb through the lovely and wildly romantic Wolf Gorge and continues along the lofty heights of the second chain of the Jura mountains.
