Introduzione
Juliette Navis’s trilogy: an exceptional theatrical marathon
To kick off the 26–27 season, L’Usine à Gaz is joining forces with La Bâtie – Festival de Genève to present Juliette Navis’s trilogy in its entirety over the course of a single day. This exceptional event offers the chance to experience this ambitious and unique work in one go, comprising three productions: J.C., Céline and Pedro.
Through these three parts, inspired by iconic figures from popular culture – Jean-Claude Van Damme, Céline Dion and Pedro Almodóvar – Juliette Navis explores, with humour, intelligence and imagination, three major blind spots in our society: money, death and desire. Blurring the lines between theatre, storytelling and performance, she brings to life popular, triumphant characters who, having reached a turning point in their lives, pause to question the world they have helped to embody.

In \*J.C.\*, a hero inspired by Jean-Claude Van Damme attempts to understand the workings of money and save humanity from an economic system that has spiralled out of control. Blending martial arts, philosophical reflection and slapstick, the show tackles such a complex and universal issue with a light touch.

Céline transports us into the world of an ageing star who looks back on her career with clarity. Through a character loosely based on Céline Dion, Juliette Navis explores success, exhaustion and the choices that shape a life, in a one-woman show that is at once funny, tender and deeply moving.

Finally, \*Pedro\* takes the form of an offbeat fiction in which a couple of telenovela actors grapple with the passage of time and the changing nature of desire. Blending Almodóvar’s exuberance with touches of science fiction, this final instalment tackles issues of intimacy, pleasure and life as a couple with boldness and humour.
Carried by the remarkable performances of Laure Mathis and Douglas Grauwels, the trilogy unfolds as an inventive piece of theatre in which laughter, the absurd and poetry become tools for reflecting on the big questions of our time.
