Description

After leaving the charming medieval town of Murten behind, you take the road in the direction of Greng and continue on a pleasant field path which offers a splendid view of the lake and the Vully region. The route takes you back to the lakeshore at Faoug, and then you cross the camping site of Avenches. After a few kilometres you will reach Salavaux, home to one of Switzerland's longest sandy beaches.

The route now runs gently uphill through a series of vineyards to Mount Vully. The hills to the north of Lake Murten offer a magnificent view of the Alps and Jura - as well as a rich historical heritage. Around 58 BC, the Celtic Helvetians built an oppidum here whose ramparts can still be seen today. More recent features include the defensive positions established by the Swiss Army during the First World War from 1914. After a rapid descent, the route runs through the Chablais, a huge woodland along the Seeland also known as the largest vegetable garden in Switzerland, before finally leading back to Murten.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
