Solothurn: A day out in the 2,000-year-old Baroque town

Solothurn is considered to be the most beautiful Baroque town in Switzerland, combining Italian grandeur with French charm and the down-to-earth attitude of Swiss Germans. The best way to start the day is with coffee and croissants from Confiserie Suteria. Having satisfied your hunger, take a stroll through the old alleyways while marvelling at the impressive buildings and perhaps buying a few special pieces on a shopping trip. In the afternoon, a visit to the “Zart” art exhibition, which looks at “2000 Years of Solothurn”, is an exciting item for your itinerary (until 26 September 2020). If you want to know more about Solothurn and its history, the “2,000 years of Solothurn” city tour is a must. After gathering so many impressions, it is worth taking a detour to the deep-blue waters of the River Aare for a pleasant aperitif or dinner.

Aarau: Discover art for yourself

In Aarau, art can be found not just in museums. A number of historic and modern artworks have been erected outside – in the old town, by the cantonal hospital and in various quarters of the town. These diverse works can be explored free of charge and independently using the “art guide”. You can pick this up from aarau info or get it as a digital version. Understandably, so many new impressions can build up a mighty appetite and thirst. Fortunately, there are plenty of pleasant cafés on the streets of the picturesque old town that are the perfect place to linger. If you like, you can combine your own tour with a visit to the Aargauer Kunsthaus gallery, which houses the most beautiful and comprehensive collection of Swiss art.

Bad Zurzach: Bike tour and well-earned relaxation in Bad Zurzach

This nature tour passes through the Zurzibiet – on your own steam or with a little boost from an e-bike, which can be hired from Bad Zurzach Tourism. The varied bike tour goes over hills high and low, inspiring with magnificent views of the Rhine and Aare rivers as well as wildly romantic wetlands. The bird sanctuary on the Klingnau reservoir and the forests that radiate their brightest colours are further highlights. If you like, you can stop at a winery for a fine glass of red or white wine and visit the winemaking museum in Tegerfelden. The best way to end this 65km bike tour is by relaxing in the thermal spa, loosening up stiff muscles in the thermal waters or with a massage.

Solothurn: Restaurant Salzhaus

The guests can look forward to a relaxed and at the same time atmospheric setting in Solothurn’s former salthouse and warehouse, which is located right on the secluded banks of the Aare. Asian influences enrich the cuisine of this place – a combination of restaurant and bar which has been awarded 13 GaultMillau points – in a unique way. An urban, culinary crossroads, the restaurant has made it its mission to pamper its guests every day with top-quality cuisine and to delight them with its style and charm.
