Passion on 10 Strings for Viola & Guitar
Overview
Intro
The program takes you on a journey through various styles and eras, featuring many musical highlights!
In their new program, Nicolas Corti on viola and Han Jonkers on guitar juxtapose music from different cultures in a striking way. In addition to “classics” such as Frescobaldi, Haydn, and Paganini, the program includes compositions that blur the boundaries between cultures and blend them together. Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos blends folk music from his homeland with music by Johann Sebastian Bach; French composer Maurice Ravel draws inspiration from Cuban music; and Cuban composer Joaquín Nin composes a “Suite Española.” “Djilile” (the song of a duck on the bank of a river) by Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe is based on an arrangement of an Aboriginal melody from the late 1950s in northern Australia.
