Intro
Sujin Lim's artistic practice focuses on exploring and creating site-specific installations and sculptures that transform real places into surreal images.
The exhibition “Thoughts on Landscape” centers on a new, site-specific mural by Sujin Lim, the current artist-in-residence at the Altes Spital in Solothurn. The work is being created specifically for the S11 and is presented alongside paintings and video works that document the artist’s performances staged at various locations. The works explore landscapes marked by disappearance and transformation, including the vanishing tidal flats of an island, damaged architecture, and flowers that now exist only in memory. The mural is painted with pigments derived from pink rugosa blossoms originating from Yeongheung Island in Korea—her father’s hometown—which are slowly disappearing. Through painting, repeated physical actions, and material and imaginary interventions, the artist reconstructs fragments of vanished landscapes in a different place and time, thereby preserving them in memory.
