Intro
Водопад Гиссбах несется через 14 каменных каскадов, начинаясь от альпийских лугов Фольхорна он, с перепадом высоты больше чем в 500 метров, обрушивается в озеро Бриенц. Исторический гранд-отель Giessbach расположен у подножия этого чуда природы. К отелю ведет старейший в Европе фуникулер.
Ручей Гисбах берет начало в высокогорных лугах долины Фольхорн-Сагис и питает всемирно известный водопад Гисбах, который обрушивается в озеро Бриенц. С XIX века здесь проложена тропа, ведущая к водопаду и даже под ним. 14 ступеней водопада Гисбах названы в честь Бернских героев.
Grand Hotel Giessbach был построен между 1873 и 1874 гг., он окружен садово-парковым ансамблем величиной в 22 га. Железнодорожная ветка Giessbachbahn была построена в 1879 и это старейший в Европе фуникулер, которым пользуются исключительно туристы. Поезд соединяет Море Гисбаха – то есть озеро Бриенц, точнее площадку, куда ниспадает водопад - с отелем, который расположен примерно в ста метрах выше по склону.

Loop to the falls (30-45 minutes)
From the Grandhotel Giessbach, a well-developed path leads along the Giessbach Falls. The highlight: A section of trail that takes you behind the waterfall. From there, you can look through the cascading masses of water to the turquoise lake and the surrounding mountains. The path climbs slightly and requires sturdy shoes.
- Good to know: Some spots can be slippery.
- Tip: After dark, the Giessbach Falls are effectively illuminated.
Ride on the historic funicular and Grandhotel Giessbach
Since 1879, the Giessbachbahn has connected the boat station on the lake with the Grandhotel Giessbach. The railway is considered the oldest funicular used by tourists in Europe and takes you back to the Belle Époque – the Grandhotel Giessbach with its terrace directly above the falls does the same.
- Good to know: The train runs from April to October.
- Tip: Combine the trip with a boat trip from Interlaken or Brienz.
Hike from Iseltwald to Giessbach (2–2.5 hours)
Start in Iseltwald and hike along Lake Brienz to the Giessbach. The path leads through forests and offers views of the turquoise water again and again. At the destination, the waterfall is waiting as a reward. The hike is mostly on well-marked paths with moderate gradients.
- Good to know: The path is not suitable for prams.
- Tip: Take the boat for the return trip to Interlaken or Brienz.
