В Национальном музее содержится крупнейшая культурная и историческая коллекция страны. За стенами вековой давности история оживает, позволяя посетителям понять, как предыдущие поколения жили, думали и чувствовали.
Все на свете от основного наследия искусства и ремесел до обычных повседненых предметов, музей демонстрирует жизнь швейцарцев от доисторических времен до наших дней. Отдельные выставки фокусируются на социально значимых вопросах, предлагая рассмотреть их во временной перспективе. Густав Гуль построил Национальный музей Швейцарии в 1898 году, в честь 50-летия первой федеральной конституции. Здание музея находится между центральным вокзалом и парком Плацспиц в весьма заметном сказочном замке.

Swiss history – from prehistoric times to the present day
In the permanent exhibition "History of Switzerland" you can explore the development of Switzerland over 550 years – from the late Middle Ages to the present day. The exhibition "Archaeology of Switzerland" shows the oldest traces of human settlement. In "The Collection" you will discover over 7,000 objects from around 1,000 years of Swiss craftsmanship.
- Good to know: The free app "Landesmuseum" offers audio guides for smartphones.
- Tip: The museum has a bistro and a restaurant; the bar is also open from 5 p.m.
Architecture of the museum
The building itself is worth seeing: The castle-like old building with turrets and round arches meets the modern exposed concrete building by Christ & Gantenbein. A bridge spans 50 metres and connects the inner courtyard with the adjacent Platzspitzpark. Events such as concerts or light installations take place in the courtyard throughout the year.
- Good to know: The inner courtyard is freely accessible – individual events are subject to a fee.
Family exhibition: With a flying carpet through history
In the family exhibition, children playfully travel back in time – through an Arab palace, a large sailing ship and an old railway compartment. You can explore the themed rooms with puzzles and even dress up. For families with children aged 4 and over.

- Tip: The museum regularly offers workshops on various topics for families.
