Solothurn’s Jesuit Church may stand in the shadow of the magnificent cathedral of St. Ursen, but it is also well worth a visit – and about a hundred years older.

This magnificent country park boasts one of the best vantage points in Lausanne. But the panoramic views are by no means the only attribute that attracts visitors. There is a tree here that is worth a visit all on its own. This is a unique weeping willow, situated some 50 metres from the manor house, that was planted in the middle of the 19th century.

The Taubenlochschlucht, one of the most picturesque gorges in the Jura, is both a natural spectacle and a witness to industrial history. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner moved from Germany to Davos in 1917, in the hope of overcoming his tablet addiction. The expressionist spent the last 20 years of his life painting in the Graubünden mountains. His works are today admired in the Kirchner Museum - a highly regarded construction by the architects Gigon / Guyer.

Not far from Rapperswil lies the abbey-owned island of Ufenau, a small paradise in the middle of Upper Lake Zurich. Art lovers can visit “art ufnau”, nature enthusiasts will enjoy the nature reserve and the island’s restaurant serves up culinary delights for all.

This art museum, extended by architects Herzog & de Meuron in 2003, houses Swiss art dating from the 18th century to the present day.

On the hills above Lausanne, Sauvabelin Park is a popular destination with families and nature lovers. Anyone who scales the 302 steps up to the platform of the Tower of Sauvabelin will be rewarded with stunning panoramic views.

The Parsenn funicular climbs the Weissfluhjoch in two sections much like an express train. With the Davos landscape below us, the view extends as far as Piz Kesch, the Bernina and 60 kilometres to the south.

North of the historic small town of Moutier lies the gorge of the same name, an attraction for hikers, paragliders and climbers alike.

The 15-minute ride aboard the colorful funicular to the Chaumont is a taste of the things to come atop the mountain.

Crossing the Schin Gorge between Tiefencastel, Alvaschein and Sils in Domleschg was not for nervous travellers.
