The best way to make the ascent up the Signalkuppe (4,554m a.s.l.) is from the Monte Rosa Hut on the Swiss side. As it is located in the Valais Alps on the Swiss–Italian border, the peak also has an Italian name: Punta Gnifetti, named after the first person to climb it, Italian mountaineer and parish priest Giovanni Gnifetti. A particular highlight of the Signalkuppe can be found on the Italian side: Europe’s highest building: the Margherita Hut.
