Lugano spoils its visitors with an abundance of art and culture, which can be found in institutions such as the cultural centre of Lugano Arte e Cultura (LAC) or the Museo d'arte della Svizzera italiana (MASI Lugano). The city lies in the midst of an impressive natural landscape, surrounded by the picturesque Lake Lugano and majestic mountains. The region is a true paradise for nature lovers and offers numerous opportunities for active recreation and relaxation.

Lugano

Lugano offers a perfect combination of culture, art and nature. The old town of Lugano exudes a charming atmosphere and is home to a number of historic buildings, including the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli with its famous fresco of the Last Supper by Bernardino Luini. But the surrounding nature also has a lot to offer. Hikes from Monte San Salvatore or along the picturesque Lake Lugano offer wonderful opportunities to discover the beauty of the region.

I don’t know why I feel so connected, maybe because of the people who inhabit this patch of earth. That is a very special connection.
Daniele Finzi Pasca

Daniele Finzi Pasca is a renowned Swiss artist who has been active in theatre, opera, circus and large events for many years now. He was born in Lugano and grew up in the region. Finzi Pasca has created and directed around 30 shows, including three Olympic ceremonies and two shows for Cirque du Soleil.

Among the Compagnia Finzi Pasca’s most important events in 2017 was Montréal Avudo, a multimedia show commissioned by the Canadian city (249.000 spectators in four months). In addition, the creative core of the “Compagnia” was part of the Fête des Vignerons 2019, a major event that takes place once every quarter century in Vevey (Switzerland) and is attended by more than 300.000 spectators.

Mark Arcobello has been living in Lugano with his family since October 2020 and is an ice hockey player of Hockey Club Lugano. He appreciates the Mediterranean climate in Lugano and is enthusiastic about the city’s many offerings, both for locals and for guests. “Lugano is a place you can’t describe without having been there,” Arcobello believes.

The lake, the city and the mountains – it’s really all very close together in Lugano, and you can enjoy it all in one day.
Mark Arcobello
Lugano is a beautiful place and cannot be compared to anywhere else in the world.

The Parco San Michele can be found in Castagnola on the slopes of Monte Brè and is a perfect retreat in which to find peace and relaxation. Here is a photo spot along the Grand Tour of Switzerland. The majestic Monte San Salvatore can be seen in all its glory from here, while Lake Lugano along with its small harbours, the lido and the long lakeside promenade are visible in their entirety.

The Lugano Arte e Cultura (LAC) is the city of Lugano’s multidisciplinary cultural centre. Among Switzerland’s cultural venues, the LAC stands out as a meeting and assembly centre between various artistic disciplines, with over 280,000 visitors in 2019.

Inside the architecturally impressive building right by the lake, for which the LAC won the prestigious Swiss Location Award 2022, there is space for a diverse programme of spoken theatre and modern drama, dance, shows, musicals and non-classical concerts, as well as cultural initiatives, events and multidisciplinary activities for various target groups (children, young people, families, schools, adults, people with disabilities).
