Frankfurt
Andreas Gursky ranks as one of the most important contemporary photographers in the world. His work is characterised by large-format, digitally reprocessed photographs which compress the reality of an era that is typified by globalisation into iconic images of people, places and landscapes. "Frankfurt", a monumental work, is an image that was constructed entirely by digital means; the artist assembled it from photographs of the departure hall at Frankfurt airport.
