Trail Run Klöntalersee
Overview
Intro
The Klöntal Valley is a summer paradise, located just outside Glarus, not far from Zurich. The shores of Klöntalersee – a stunning Alpine lake – is a beautiful setting to start and finish a run.
Description
The run starts and ends on the banks of Klöntalersee. The lake stretches deep into the valley, with the rocky wall of the Glärnisch massif towering overhead, glistening with waterfalls. Tall trees shade the lakeside trail and the turquoise waters of Klöntalersee make it the perfect place for a swim at the end of the run.
The trail begins steeply, straight up through forest and farms to reach the pass below the Obere Scheiterböden. The pass offers beautiful views across to the Glärnisch and down to the glittering lake.
A long traverse winds through narrow, green walls opening to pastures and farmhouses. The trail is rocky, but wide. The descent follows a popular mountain bike route made of paver stones to a short section of road where it connects to the trail at the far western tip of the lake. The return trip along the south edge of the lake winds its way along a wide forest path close to grassy and rocky beaches. The running is smooth and easy, and you may be tempted to enjoy a nap or a swim at the lake.
Tip from ALPSinsight: Swimming in the clear waters of Klöntalersee is the perfect way to reward yourself at the end of the run.
